Dr. Michael Kalis is a Senior Researcher at IKEM in the field of energy law and a senior researcher in the “Energy” cluster at the Interdiscipli- nary Research Centre for the Baltic Sea Region (IFZO) at the University of Greifswald. He studied law with a focus on international and Euro- pean law at the European University Viadrina and the Université du Luxembourg. In addition, Mr Kalis investigates the legal framework for power-to-X applications, with a particular focus on synthetic fuels and renewable gases. The latter is also one of his research areas at the IFZO. In his dissertation, submitted to the University of Greifswald, he examines issues of justiciable climate protection in Germany and national climate lawsuits. Building on his research in climate change litiga- tion, with a focus on human rights-based litigation, he currently focuses on Earth System Law and the role of the law in the Anthropocene.
